CCA May 23, 2011 Minutes at Skagit Valley College

President Greg Tate started the meeting on a happy note – passing out checks to the artists who sold at the Front Gallery in Mount Vernon. The show runs through May 28. Opening night May 6 was well attended in spite of rain and cold temperatures. Sales were around $1500. The city of Mt. Vernon was impressed with the quality of the work shown and has asked CCA to participate in upcoming events.

Treasurers Report: Irene Lawson reported a balance of $6958.29 in the CCA checking account. $2265.00 is committed to the Vince Pitelka workshop leaving a balance of $4,693.29.

A discussion followed about using CCA funds to sponsor workshops or other events. Jennifer Yates asked if it is possible to offer workshops as clock hours for teachers. This would be a great benefit for art teachers who must take a required amount of clock hours each year and would benefit CCA as well.

Clay, Fire & Form show at the Depot in Anacortes: Opening reception June 3, 6-9 pm. Delivery date has been changed to Wed, June 1 from 10 am – 12:30. Take down is Sat. June 25, 12:30-4:00 or Tues. June 28 12:30-4:00. Inventory sheets were e-mailed earlier.

Lynn Guiliani gave us some pointers on doing a personal statement for the show.

Silent auction theme is The Dining Car; proceeds go to Skagit Valley College art scholarship fund. Bidding ends last day of show, June 25 at noon.

Food: Please bring finger food, no dips, on pottery serving ware.

People’s Choice Awards: 1st place Clay Arts in Tacoma, $50 gift certificate plus entry to next years show. 2nd Seattle Pottery $50 gift certificate and 3rd is free CCA membership for 2011-12.

Volunteers were asked for Saturdays at the Depot during the show. Several people responded and we have it covered.

Vince Pitelka workshop July 23- 25 is full with a waiting list. Details to follow for those registered.

Burn Party: Sept. 10 all day in Camano. Roger Cocke and Rose Moore host this but need a committee to help plan and implement the event. In particular they need another kiln. At the moment they have one raku and one pit fire kiln. Greg will look into building a wood firing raku kiln.

Misc: Greg will call a Board meeting soon. He would like EVERYONE involved and serving on a committee.

Skagit Valley College will not be available for June, July or August. The Depot show takes the place of the June meeting. The July meeting is the last day of the Pitelka workshop. It was suggested we meet at either the Burlington Library or Anacortes HS where the workshop will be. I have checked and the B. Library is not available on July 25. The Aug. 22 meeting is up for grabs. More info to follow.

Patsy and Ron Chamberlain are doing a doing a joint show with Nola Ahola at the Northwest Craft Center in the Seattle Center June 3-30.

Kathy Huckleberry is the site manager for CCA web page. She needs photos (less than100k) and links for the site. You can send to Kathy at ceramicvisions@nwfirst.com.

Allied Arts Gallery in Bellingham will be available in March 2012 during NCECA.

The rest of the time was spent labeling and sorting postcards for the Depot show. Thanks everyone!
